At around 8 p.m. Thursday, Boise Police Department neighborhood contact officers were in the area of west Ustick Road and north Maple Grove Road, following up on complaints from residents about possible drug activity.

The investigation ultimately led to seven arrests.

The series of arrests began when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and the vehicle fled, according to a BPD news release. The officer located the vehicle again a short time later and tried to contact the driver, who was standing outside the vehicle. The officer announced himself by saying, “Stop, Boise police,” and attempted to take the suspect into custody, according to BPD. After a brief struggle, the suspect ran away.

Boise Police did not expand on what the “struggle” involved.

Additional officers located the man nearby, in the 3500 block of north Jackie Lane, and took him into custody, police said. After an investigation, officers found evidence that the suspect, Anthony Howard, 31, of Boise, had attempted to discard two stolen firearms while fleeing.

A police K9 search around the suspect’s vehicle also resulted in a positive alert to the possible presence of narcotics. Inside the vehicle officers reported finding suspected heroin, heroin paraphernalia and oxytocin.

Howard was booked in the Ada County Jail on suspicion of two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, two counts of grand theft of firearms, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers.

As part of additional investigation in the area, six other suspects were contacted near a home in the 4600 block of N. Jennifer Street. where multiple drug-related items were in plain view, according to BPD.

The suspects were arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on suspicion of drug-related charges.

Logan Shay, 21, of Nampa, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor frequenting a place where drugs are used.
