Lawyer: DA decision on suspended officer Joseph Mensah expected Wednesday

Mensah is responsible for 3 deadly shootings in five years.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney is expected on Wednesday to announce the results of his investigation and whether or not to file criminal charges for Wauwatosa Officer Joseph Mensah in the shooting death of Alvin Cole, a lawyer for the slain teen confirmed.Kimberly Motley, who represents Cole’s parents, said the family plans to meet with representatives from Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office at 3 p.m.Mensah shot Cole, 17, on Feb. 2 between Mayfair Mall and the Cheesecake Factory restaurant.Wauwatosa police said Cole was shot after a foot chase that started when mall security said they spotted him with a gun.Police released squad car video from the scene, but said there was no body camera footage of the incident because not all officers wear body cameras.The Wauwatosa Police and Fire Commission voted July 15 to suspend Mensah, who after the Cole shooting, had been involved in three separate fatal shootings in five years.Related: Police and Fire Commission vote to suspend Joseph MensahTwo of Mensah’s shootings have previously been ruled justified.The shooting sparked numerous protests against police brutality and calls for Mensah’s firing and prosecution.Mensah, through his lawyers, is challenging the suspension in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.A spokesperson for Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm could not be immediately reached for comment.
