DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Waste collection workers found a man dead on a sidewalk in Dayton Monday morning.
The body was found around 8:30 a.m. on Harold Drive near Stanford Place. According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the body found was bloody. The discovery is being investigated by the Dayton Police Department but no other details about this case were available.
Police said Monday afternoon they believe the man was shot and that a homicide investigation is underway. Lieutenant Jason Hall of the Dayton Police Department said it is “very early” in the investigation and police are working to learn more. Hall said a lot of evidence of gunfire at the scene.
Hall said the man lives in the area and investigators are looking for witnesses or anyone who can shed some light on the circumstances surrounding this incident. The man found on the sidewalk has bot been identified.
There were several incidents of violence in the city over the weekend. Hall said a 62-year-old man was shot on Cornell Drive but did not say that shooting was connected to the body found on Harold Drive. That man is expected to survive his injuries and is cooperating with the police.
A 25-year-old man, identified as Kato D. Knight, was pronounced dead after a shooting on Necco Avenue Sunday morning. Hall said these two incidents are not connected but reiterated it is too early in the investigation to rule that out.
